Reflection free coatings are designed to eliminate the many different types of reflections that occur due to the very highly polished nature of both sides of a spectacle lens. These reflections can be particularly  troublesome in the evening when there are a lot of artificial light sources such as car headlights and street lighting. In these instances, the reflections can cause troublesome halo's around the source making your vision less clear and in extreme cases dangerous. AR coats also improve the cosmetic appearance of spectacles by removing the bright flash off the lens front, so the finished product is much more aesthetically pleasing. As with all lens products, there are different qualities of AR coats; some work better than others so always make sure you purchase a high quality one for the best performance.
NEW: Solitaire® LayR Technology
Solitaire® LayR technology is multifunctional, engineered to overcome each challenge that stands in the way of achieving clearer vision, layer by layer. We know reflections from the lens are just one obstacle to clearer vision, and the increased vision clarity provided by the technology’s advanced anti-reflective layer is only one of the benefits.

Each of the many layers of LayR technology is specifically engineered to overcome different obstacles to clearer vision, be it scratches on the lens, dust, dirt or fingerprints on the lens surface, or harmful UV light and potentially harmful artificial blue light.
Solitaire® LayR Balance: Fit for the digital world
Whether it’s a phone, computer, tablet or TV, people today spend much of their time in front of a screen. LayR technology employs an optional blue light reduction layer to significantly reduce the amount of potentially harmful blue light that reaches the eye.
Solitaire® LayR Sun: With UV protection.
Sunglasses with Solitaire® LayR Sun 2 enable you to enjoy 100 % protection from UVA and UVB and maximum anti-dazzle. In addition, our premium Solitaire® LayR Sun 2 coating provides protection from reflections and is extraordinary easy to look after and resistant due to its pearling effect and dust-repellent properties.

Scratch Resistance

No lens material, including glass, is completely scratch proof. That's why most manufacturers of plastic lenses are able to put a very thin scratch resistant coating onto both surfaces of the lens in order to make them far more durable. Many lenses such as hi-index or polycarbonate are actually treated as standard but on more basic lenses it is still an optional extra. Remember though, whilst very tough, these treatments cannot protect the surface of the lens from ever getting marked so always keep them in a case when not being worn.

Tints

There are many different coloured tints available to treat lenses with. Whilst many are purely cosmetic there are a number of conditions that can be helped by more specialised colours. Colourimetry is a process by which reading difficulties can be improved by careful selection of specific tints; low vision patients may benefit from  special contrast filters such as orange or yellow. The most obvious use is as a sunglass but care must be taken to ensure that lenses with darker tints must have the appropriate UV protection as well.

Mirror Coatings

Mirror coatings are purely cosmetic and are available in an assortment of colours. The wearer perceives no difference in vision regardless of what colour the coating is, only those looking at the person wearing the glasses can see the mirror coating. Mirror coatings are normally applied to sunglass lenses.

Polarised

Polarised lenses absorb light that has been reflected by a surface such as water or snow. By doing this, the glare caused by the light is reduced greatly giving much sharper, clearer and more comfortable vision. Traditionally used by fishermen to reduce glare from the water they are fishing in, they have a myriad of different uses.
