Eye examinations
Regular eye examinations should be a part of your life. Eyesight is a precious sense, many would argue that it is the most important sense. Keeping your eyesight in its best condition is what we are here for.
Our eye examinations use the latest technology to make sure that we are as thorough as possible. We have good relationships with the local consultant ophthalmologists (eye specialists), which is vital for continuing care of your eyes should a problem be found.
However, the vast majority of our eye examinations are about making sure you can see as clearly as possible. The world is a very visual place and modern life increasingly requires good vision.
There is absolutely no point getting a high definition television if your eyesight cannot appreciate the quality of the image. Computers, mobile phones and driving all require a high standard of vision. That is what we are good at. By close co-operation between optometrist and dispensing optician we can ensure not only that you look your best, but also that you are seeing as clearly as possible.
There are two types of eye examination we provide. The first is a basic eye test. This involves a full refraction (the bit with the lenses, charts on the wall and the reading charts) and an examination of the outside and inside of the eyes with an ophthalmoscope. If you are above 40 years old we will also check your peripheral vision and check the pressure of your eyes.
The second type is a full comprehensive eye examination. This takes longer. It has all the same parts of the basic eye test but also includes in depth photography of the eyes inside and out and even includes high tech scanning of the different layers of the retina (see page on OCT). Any further investigations are included in the fees for this examination. We are even able to conduct very accurate visual field analysis and map the curvature of the cornea (the front of the eye) in 3D.
